Fabio Mechetti, conductor

Born in São Paulo, Fabio Mechetti is the Music Director and Principal Conductor of the Minas Gerais Philharmonic since its creation in 2008. Recently, he became the first Brazilian invited to lead an Asian orchestra, being appointed Principal Conductor of the Malaysian Philharmonic. In the United States, Mechetti was Resident Conductor of the San Diego Symphony, Principal Conductor of the Syracuse Symphony, and is now Conductor Emeritus of the Spokane Symphony and the Jacksonville Symphony, after leading them for many seasons with great success. In Washington, he served as Associate Conductor for Mstislav Rostropovich in the National Symphony. With a solid career both in the USA and Brazil, Mechetti has already performed in Mexico, Peru, Venezuela, New Zealand, Spain, Japan, Scotland, Finland, Canada, Sweden, and Italy. He is also a winner of the Malko Competition and holds Master’s degrees in conducting and composition from the Juilliard School of Music.

Member of the Minas Gerais Philharmonic since its creation, Renata began her studies at seven at Juscelino Kubitscheck de Oliveira State Conservatory in her hometown, Pouso Alegre, countryside of Minas Gerais. In 2002, she obtained her bachelor’s degree at São Paulo State University (Unesp) under Jean Noel Saghaard. Renata has participated in major music festivals in Brazil, including the Campos do Jordão, Curitiba Music Workshop and Música nas Montanhas. As guest musician, she performed with São José dos Campos, Rio Claro and Santos symphony orchestras. She has also been a member of other Brazilian ensembles such as São Paulo State Youth Symphonic Band, São Paulo State Youth Symphonic Orchestra, Guarulhos Youth Orchestra, Heliópolis Symphony, Cubatão Symphonic Band and São Paulo University Symphony Orchestra.

Jonatas began his studies at São Paulo Municipal School of Music (Emesp) and graduated in Clarinet from the São Paulo State University (Unesp), under Sergio Burgani. He has also participated in masterclasses with Wenzel Fuchs, Christoph Muller, Michael Gurfinkel, Ovanir Buosi and Cristiano Alves. In 2012, he got first place in TV Cultura’s contest Pré-Estreia, Chamber Music category, performing with Nó na Madeira Quartet. With this same group, he appeared as soloist with Tom Jobim Youth Orchestra, performing works by Léa Freire with arrangements by Luca Raele. The musician also won the 2010 and 2011 editions of Young Soloists contest of Guarulhos Youth Symphony Orchestra. Jonatas is a member of the Minas Gerais Philharmonic since 2013.

The Scottish-born Andrew has been bassoonist of the Minas Gerais Philharmonic since 2011. Before that, he took the post of Co-Principal Bassoon of the Orquestra do Norte, in Portugal. Between 2007 and 2011, he won an apprenticeship with the London Philharmonic and worked with the Bournemouth Symphony, RTE National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland and the English National Ballet. Andrew also performed in live broadcasts with the London Symphony and recorded for the Bee Gees with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. A chamber music enthusiast, he joined many ensembles and performed at the Royal Festival Hall, in London. Encouraged from an early age by his parents, who are both orchestral musicians, Andrew became a chorister at the age of eight, then he received piano, theory and singing lessons, and began learning the bassoon at twelve. Upon leaving school, he studied Music and Philosophy at the University of Birmingham, and continued his studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where the bassoonists of the BBC Symphony and Philharmonia Orchestra tutored him. It was also there that he obtained his Masters’ degree in Performance.

Evgueni was born in Belarus and moved to Brazil in 1996 to join the Amazonas Philharmonic Orchestra, where he played for eleven years. In Minsk, he was a member of the Symphonic Orchestra of the National Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre. Evgueni has performed with the National Philharmonic of Belarus, the National Orchestra of Radio and TV, the National Chamber Orchestra and the Klassik-Avangard Orchestra. An experienced chamber musician, he played in the wind quintets of the Bolshoi Theatre, the Schleswig-Holstein Festival and the Amazonas Philharmonic. He also integrated the French horn quartet BH Horns. Naturalized as a Brazilian citizen, Evgueni is a member of the Minas Gerais Philharmonic since 2008, and he plays in its Wind Quintet.
