Violas

Luciano Gatelli began his extensive musical education in Porto Alegre, with violin, viola, piano, singing and music theory lessons, obtaining later his diploma from the Rio Grande do Sul Federal University. Under Yuri Gandelsman, he is a doctoral candidate in Music from the Michigan State University, where he also earned his master’s degree in 2011 and in which he has been an assistant professor.

 

In 2008, Luciano was a fellow of the Leonard Sorking Institute of Chamber Music at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. During his staying in France between 2002 and 2008, he studied viola and chamber music at the conservatories of Basançon, Dijon and Bordeaux, under Dominique Burnier and Tasso Adamopoulos. In 2005, he won the Jeune Musicien of Besançon contest. He has also taken part in master classes with renowned professors such as Thomas Riebl and Roberto Díaz.

 

As an orchestral musician, Luciano has worked with French orchestras such as the Besançon Symphony, Saint-Etienne Opera and National de Bordeaux. In the United States, he was a member of the Flint Symphony Orchestra and the Lansing Symphony Orchestra, among others. In recent years, he worked intensely on chamber music projects in Brazil, France and the United States, having shared the stage with musicians such as Yuri Gandelsman, Dimitry Berlinski and Suren Bagratuni.
