Born in Extrema, countryside of Minas Gerais, Cássia began her studies with João Dias Carrasqueira and Grace Busch. She has obtained her bachelor’s degree in Flute from State University of São Paulo (Unesp), under the advisory of Jean-Noel Saghaard. Still in São Paulo, she has also been a student of Marcos Kiehl. Cássia has been a fellow of Vitae Foundation during the years of study at the Mannes College of Music in New York, under Keith Underwood, when she obtained a Master’s degree and her Artist Diploma. She’s participated in masterclasses with Michael Parloff, William Bennett, Judith Mendenhall and Emmanuel Pahud, among others.

Cássia has won major music competitions in Brazil, such as Young Soloist of Orquestra Experimental de Repertório and the 2^nd Young Flutist National Contest. In New York, she’s won the Mannes Concerto Competition and the Gregory Award for Excellence in Performance. She has been a fellow of the Tanglewood Music Center, where she performed as chamber musician and First Flute of the festival orchestra, conducted by James Levine, Kurt Masur, Seiji Ozawa and Rafael Frübehbeck. In Minneapolis, she has been a Professor at the University of Minnesota and also a flutist of the Minnesota Orchestra, conducted by Charles Dutoit.

Back in Brazil, she’s been first flute and soloist of São Paulo State Symohony (Osesp). Now, besides being the Principal Flute of Minas Gerais Philharmonic, Cássia is also a member of the wind quintet Kaleidos.
